I have always loved sunrises and sunsets. As the day shifts, colours magically appear - most every morning and night produces a stunning show, particularly in McCrae, where my new studio is.
I find myself mesmerised by the changing colours. This is my entertainment. I’d rather watch the sunset than watch tv… and as I watch, I take photo upon photo. My camera roll is filled with sunrises and sunsets.
This particularly day, I had woken before the sunrise for my morning meditation. As I finished my meditation, I contemplated the excitement and hope I am feeling about this new direction; this new career. Not just about getting my paintings out into the world - but also about opening our home to individuals seeking nourishment and connection.
We had purchased McCrae as a second home for ourselves - and realised recently that with a little renovation we are able to create both a yoga & meditation space in addition to a new art studio for me. Nestled on the edge of Arthur’s Seat National Park, with views of bush and bay, and tranquil garden settings - it makes for a special retreat space not far from Melbourne CBD. We envisage it to be a place for people to come together and commune, connect to their hearts, connect to their creativity, connect to their bodies, their breath and their mind. It’s all about nourishing oneself.
Recognising one of the healing elements this home offers is the beauty of of its sunrises and sunsets, this painting represents the hope, excitement and certainly I was feeling in that moment for this new chapter in life and all the promise it offers. It represents the sunrise and the beautiful colours in the sky at the start of a new day.
