Impossible Dream? I’m Possible Dream!
Setting your own IMPOSSIBLE (I’M Possible) Goal
Setting an "Impossible Goal"—aka as the BHAG - Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal - a goal so audacious that it seems almost out of reach—can be a powerful act of self-belief and transformation.
Big dreams require us to stretch our minds and imaginations, develop resilience (Rome wasn’t built overnight), and embrace new mindsets.
We don’t have to know how it’s going to happen, but we have to allow ourselves to imagine the possibilities.
Alternatively, you can set limiting beliefs on yourself. Say it’s not possible… and you’ll be right.
I’d personally rather shift my mindset and stretch my mind to open to the INFINITE possibilities available to us.
So - let’s check back here in 2 years time. I’m giving myself to Dec 31, ‘26 to have opened the hearts of millions through my voice & art.
If you’re a left brain oriented person, perhaps a bit of science that supports the magic that happens when we take these leaps will help you reach for your own I’MPossible dream?
1. Rewiring Your Brain for Success - Neuroplasticity
When we chase a challenging goal, it activates neuroplasticity—our brain’s ability to rewire itself. Like muscles growing through exercise, our brain gets stronger when we pursue new, difficult tasks. When you set your sights on something you’ve never done before, your brain starts building pathways to make you more resilient and resourceful, creating what many see as new mental muscles.
Dopamine, the Motivation Booster: Neuroscientists have shown that hitting small milestones along the way to a big goal releases dopamine, the brain's “reward” chemical. This release not only makes us feel good but drives us to keep pushing forward. Each step closer to your Impossible Goal reinforces that success is achievable, setting up a positive feedback loop that makes you more determined and focused.
2. Mindset Shift: Belief in Your Potential
Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck’s research into growth mindset shows that those who believe they can improve are more willing to embrace challenges and more likely to succeed. When you reframe your "Impossible" as "I’M Possible," you’re tapping into a powerful shift in perspective. You’re creating a new mindset that isn’t deterred by obstacles but is fueled by them, viewing each step as progress.
Self-Efficacy and Micro-Wins: Psychologist Albert Bandura coined the term self-efficacy to describe belief in one’s ability to succeed. As you set smaller goals on the way to your big one, each success reinforces this belief, making the Impossible seem more attainable. Building a chain of wins, no matter how small, gives you the confidence and momentum to keep pushing forward.
3. Quantum Potential: Harnessing the Power of Intention
In the quantum field, some researchers believe that focused intention is more powerful than we realize. When you set an intention and give it your all, you're tuning into new possibilities and pathways that might otherwise remain unseen. While this isn’t to say that just focusing can bring results without inspired action, it suggests that the right mindset and commitment can "unlock" opportunities and resources that align with your goal. As I teach in my programs - setting the intention is the first step - and then FEELING into the visualisation is an even more important step.
Energy Follows Attention: According to quantum theory, where you place your focus, your energy follows. Committing to an Impossible Goal aligns your energy, attention, and actions, creating an internal and external alignment that helps manifest your vision into reality.
4. Building Resilience Through Adversity
Pursuing a big goal builds resilience by pushing us through inevitable setbacks. Neuroscientists have discovered that repeated challenges strengthen the prefrontal cortex, which governs decision-making, and reduce amygdala reactivity, which helps manage fear and stress. This resilience becomes the foundation of a robust mindset, allowing you to bounce back quickly from challenges.
Emotional Strength and Self-Trust: Each hurdle you overcome on the way to your Impossible Goal also strengthens your self-trust. This trust isn’t just belief in your abilities; it’s a deep sense that you are capable of handling whatever comes, allowing you to be bold and unstoppable.
5. Purpose-Driven Goals Fuel Your Passion and Perseverance
When your Impossible Goal is tied to a deep sense of purpose, it moves beyond achievement and becomes a calling. Research in positive psychology shows that people who pursue purpose-driven goals experience greater well-being, resilience, and overall fulfillment. You’re not just aiming high; you’re aligning with something that resonates deeply within you, giving you the emotional fuel to keep going even when the path is rocky.
Heart-Brain Coherence: Emerging studies suggest that when you align with a purpose, your heart and brain enter a state of coherence, creating clarity, focus, and resilience. This harmony between your emotional state and mental focus helps you stay committed, making every step towards your goal feel like it’s moving you closer to your most aligned self.
I’m currently pursuing the I’MPossible goal of My Voice & Art Opening the Hearts of Millions.
Each step I take towards this goal helps to reprogram my mind, reshape my beliefs, and strengthens my resilience. Of course I still get the wobbles… but I’m pushing through. I know that ‘self doubt’ is going to be my constant companion in this life, thanks to it’s shadow in my Evolution (click here to find out yours). But most days, I’m able to acknowledge it’s presence and choose to not go down the rabbit hole. Thoughts are just thoughts. We can choose to give them our energy, or not. I can choose to redirect my energy elsewhere.
If you’re clear on a direction you want to take, I encourage you to pursue it wholeheartedly! The world needs more people lit up by the work they do in the world!
